Prompts - visual art for people with sight loss

Herbst Palace Museum uses an innovative system of  „Prompts”. It is a combination of audio-description with innovative technical elements placed all over the Palace, in Old  Masters Gallery, and in the garden. The system enables people with visual impairment or blind people effortless and safe navigation across these spaces without any assistance of third persons. It is the first in Poland, built-in, permanent and extensive system, which helps people with sight loss independently move around and visit the entire exhibition space.

How does the „Prompts" system work? All the space of the museum: the garden, Old Masters Gallery and the Herbst Palace are covered with several dozen markings. They have been placed not only in palace interiors and in the vicinity of selected premises but also in the most sensitive communication spots, such as the box office, intersections of routes, and corridors. For the time of their visit blind people receive a special transmitter with an audio-guide. They can hear navigation messages and special audio-description. That is what makes all the artworks presented in the Gallery and palace rooms available to visually impaired persons. Recordings describe the buildings of the Carriage House with the Old Masters Gallery, Herbst Palace and help safely walk in the garden. 

In  May 2014 "Prompts" received the  main prize of the 34th Museum Event of the Year Competition Sybilla 2013 in the category „Digitalization and New Technologies”.

„Prompts” project is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

With people with visual impairment in mind, Herbst Palace  Museum prepared a series of original educational workshops. It includes cyclic events entitled "Herbst Palace in several stages" as well as a permanent offer.
