Michałowski and Goya
Can art facilitate communication of cultures and nations? Can it contribute to the establishing of inter-cultural dialogue? Can paintings encourage to reflect over the history? Can the image of suffering refine us or change anything inside us? These questions are discussed by Agata Lorkowska, curator of the exhibition „Goya and Michałowski”, in the book with the same title. The publication is an unusual catalogue of the exhibition; it provides an extended text of the curator by Agata Lorkowska, an essay by Agnieszka Rosales Rodriquez, descriptions of works and reproductions of artworks. The book is also unusual as a result of an extensive graphic design by Ryszard Bienert, who successfully created a coherent system of presentation of the content. At first glance it seems little legible and reminds us of an anti-guidebook rather than a map of the exhibition. However, having got more closely acquainted with it, the reader notices the coherence between the subject of works at the exhibition and the layout of the book.
